Aubrey Greene
and Tom Layfield established Greenfield Metal Products
Company in February 1957, in Americus, Georgia. The
company manufactured automotive after-market equipment
(tire truers and balancers) for Americus Machinery,
which is now known as Amermac, Inc. Greenfield Metal
Products Company was incorporated in 1959 and moved its
manufacturing facility to Ellaville, Georgia in April
1963. In September 1975, Greenfield Metal Products
purchased Amermac, Inc., as the sales company for
automotive after-market equipment. In 1983, Tom Layfield
retired from Greenfield Metal Products. Aubrey Greene
remained at the helm of Greenfield Metal Products and
Amermac until his death in April 2001.
Greenfield Metal Products is the oldest manufacturer of
ventilated wire shelving, having begun fabricating steel
wire shelving in 1968. In 1980, Greenfield expanded its
operation to include coating capabilities and began to
market Greenfield Shelving nationwide. In June 1995,
Greenfield purchased the machinery of US Shelving in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and moved all the equipment
into a new 33,000 square foot building. A second new
building was completed in 1997 to accommodate a second
coating oven.
Since relocating to Ellaville in 1963, the facility has
grown from the original 12,000 square foot building to
the current 96,000 square foot building. Amermac, Inc.
sells equipment nationwide and overseas to Europe and
the Middle East. Greenfield’s shelving market is based
primarily east of the Mississippi, north through Canada
and south through the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central
America. |
